Speaking at the arrival ceremony of MSC DOMITILLE ship in the country’s largest port, Ebrahim Idani, Director General of Hormozgan Province Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO), said “after six years, the first container ship of Switzerland’s MSC container line, with a capacity of 9400 TEU, berthed at Terminal 2 of Shahid Rajaei port.”
“The ship is carrying 1162 TEU import and export containers and has started its journey from China’s Shanghai port,” he added.
“MSC line ships are scheduled to arrive in Shahid Rajaei port on a weekly basis,” noted Idani asserting “Switzerland’s MSC marks the second largest shipping line in the world and by berthing of MSC ships at Iran’s largest commercial port, the number of foreign liners commuting to and from the port has reached 17.”
Idani deemed reduction of rental rates for goods coming from Far East in the short term as a major advantage of commuting to Shahid Rajaei port adding “ship liners will also benefit from capacities of the Iranian market.”
“The costs of freight transportation services will shrink providing greater capacities for the country,” he emphasized.
One of the world’s largest container ships, MSC BEATRICE, with a capacity of 14 thousand TEU, had last docked in Shahid Rajaei port in July 2009.
